Counter-Strike is a 2001 first-person shooter video game created by Valve, a video game developer based in Bellevue, Washington, United States and first released for Microsoft Windows. This is the first part of a series of installments that the main gameplay consists of assaulting, eliminating, defending, or protecting points to eliminate all the opponents and eventually the opposition. A single player can play, while computer controlled players can be launched from the rest point in each round. The game is a mod for the Half-Life game engine. The original code for the game was written by Minh \"gooseman\" Le and was released in 1999, though the final version was not released until 2001. It received critical and commercial success and established a genre. This was followed by Counter-Strike: Condition Zero in 2004. In 2004 a compilation of the first two games, titled Counter-Strike: Source was released, packing in every element from the first games. Counter-Strike was a large success and spawned three sequels.
Counter-Strike can be played competitively or cooperatively through the Counter-Strike: Source mod for the Half-Life engine. Multiplayer gameplay is available in either team deathmatch or counter-strike, the latter being a team deathmatch that requires at least two to eight players. Also included are a number of modes for single player, including hostages rescue, a practice mode, and objective-based modes such as assault and defuse. It can be played over a local area network (LAN) or the Internet, and has been used extensively as a multiplayer mode in computer games, since it is playable over the internet. Counter-Strike received widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. The game was a large success and spawned three sequels, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Counter-Strike: Global Operations, and Counter-Strike: Global Underground.
In the Counter-Strike modification, the game is centered on two opposing teams which are attempting to destroy each other's main bomb factories. These are surrounded by numerous checkpoints to prevent one team making a clean sweep of the other's base, in which case the other might be able to recover and cause problems elsewhere. However, if an opposing team captures a bomb factory, then they de facto control the base. 7211a4ac4a
