Fallout 76 recently received a major patch and is set for a further update in March. It didn't change much in terms of multiplayer, but there is some good news for those of you who were still hoping for multiplayer.
The idea of a Fallout game with a multiplayer component was pretty good, as it allowed people to explore the world without the restrictions of four-player co-op. Then the game debuted, and it was a disaster. Many players had issues with server connection, as well as the clunky controls.
It was an ambitious project to say the least, with Fallout 76 tied to the nuclear disaster that destroyed Washington DC and an entire generation of America. Combine that with the fact that its multiplayer component was going to be DLC and it was something that stood to take a lot of work to pull off. In fact, Bethesda was so worried about the quality of the multiplayer component that they were hesitant to let people play it at all.
Part of that may have come down to the fact that people who liked Fallout 1 and 2 likely won't be interested in this game. It also probably wasn't helped by a terrible reputation for the franchise. While being compared to the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4 is a low blow, it's not unfair. When Fallout 76 is looked back on in 5-10 years, it's going to be compared to those games.
